‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: How Nina Dobrev will stay busy

“The Vampire Diaries” is well on the path to having a super-crazy fifth season when it airs on The CW this fall, especially if your name just so happens to be Nina Dobrev. As for why her over anyone else, the answer is really rather simple:  She’s got two characters to play! Unlike Paul Wesley, it also doesn’t look like one of them is going to be buried in the ground for most of the time in which the other one is active. Katherine and Elena are about to have the tables turned on them in a pretty major way, and we couldn’t be more excited to watch Elena hopefully put Katherine through a little bit of misery after everything she’s done to Elena.

For more on just what we are set to expect from this new-and-especially-crazy scenario, executive producer Julie Plec had some insight courtesy of an all-new interview that she gave to TV Guide:

“One thing we’re looking forward to so much next season is Elena on her own as a vampire and living her new life in college … And to see a vulnerable Katherine, who is able to be hurt and able to be killed and in need of the protection much like the first Elena we met four years ago.”

There’s nothing quite like an old-fashioned role reversal, right? While Katherine is going to seek out some help in protecting herself from an upcoming onslaught that comes with mortality, you still have to ask yourself whether or not anyone is actually going to be that willing to help her since her attitude sucked when it came towards pretty much everyone. Granted, she had a unique ability for many years to get men to fall for her, but that was largely in a very different time.
