NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Hear Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert’s performance for charity
Typically, we would have enclosed something like the following article within our review for Tuesday night’s “The Voice” results show, but given the sensitive nature of the story, it really merited more of its own article.
At the start of the show, prior to things shifting towards eliminating contestants, Blake Shelton took to the stage with his wife Miranda Lambert in order to give a performance of her hit song “Over You.” The song was originally co-written by the two about the passing of Shelton’s brother years ago, and quickly ended up becoming an award-winning hit for her. It also was performed last season in a notable performance last season on “The Voice” by eventual champion Cassadee Pope.
On this occasion, the lyrics were suitable for the subject matter of recent tornadoes that tore through the state of Oklahoma, where the couple has a home. Over 20 people have been confirmed dead already, and the relief effort is really just starting to get under way as families try to rebuild. Even for survivors, there is still millions upon millions of dollars’ worth of devastation, and it will still be some time before things start to even remotely resemble normalcy there.
