‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Steven Moffat mum on John Hurt, but talks story
So how far ahead is production for “Doctor Who” season 8? Even though filming is still many months away (as Matt Smith has a movie to finish and hair to grow back out), this is not stopping a certain prolific showrunner from making sure that the story is secure and ready to go, just to make sure that there are no bumps in the road later.
As you may have caught in our earlier article, Steven Moffat was honored in New York City Monday with an International Peabody Award, and was also kind enough to speak in a brief interview per BuzzFeed. When asked about whether or not he outlines future seasons long before starting them, he gave a pretty clear answer:
“Yes, I’m afraid. We have to work quite a long way in advance. The next season is plotted out. I always end up complaining about it, but it’s quite fun. I’m just making up nonsensical adventures, what’s wrong with that?”
What Moffat did not comment on is the future of John Hurt, who showed up at the tail end of “The Name of the Doctor” as some sort of mysterious incarnation of the character. While we are aware that he will be one of the many names who turns up in the show’s upcoming 50th anniversary special, that is really all we know for the time being. It’s not clear if a season 8 role is also in the cards.
The anniversary special will air on November 23, with the Christmas special and the new season coming after that. If you want to take a look back at “The Name of the Doctor” with some behind-the-scenes footage, the video over at the link here should handily do the trick.
