NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Is Kris Thomas in trouble? Is Danielle Bradbery a lock?
Is “The Voice” flawed as a series more so than any other singing show out there? We’re starting to wonder now, based on the continued domination of Blake Shelton’s artists in comparison to everyone else on the show.
Is it that Blake’s fans are simply more loyal and willing to support their favorite artist, or is he really that much better of a coach than anyone else in the competition? We’re looking at the iTunes numbers for today, and they’re pretty startling. All three of his acts (Holly Tucker, Danielle Bradbery, and the Swon Brothers) are in the top half of the group when it comes to iTunes sales, and Danielle in particular is going to be snagging that 10x multiplier thanks to her “Heads Carolina, Tails California” landing in the iTunes top 10 for the week. She’s the only artist in there as of this writing, with Michelle Chamuel from Usher’s team is firmly in second place.
What we think it is with Blake is that he is not only popular, but he has a better view of what his fans want. That is why he went to the voting round with four country artists this year, as he understands the genre very well. He knew that Christian audiences would support Holly Tucker’s “How Great Thou Art,” and that the Swon Brothers have the potential to be the next great country duo. The man’s just smart, and it has to be frustrating to some of the other coaches.
As of right now, Michelle is probably the one contestant from another team with an enormous shot of making it to the finale, as we’re starting to feel like Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons, despite their hype, may finish at around the top six.
So who could be leaving the competition tonight? We almost expect further erosion of Usher and Shakira’s teams, as both Josiah Hawley and Kris Thomas gave weaker performances, which put them near the bottom of iTunes sales. This means that 2013 as the year of the girl in singing shows will continue, and the Swon Brothers will find themselves as the only guys left in the competition.
