‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10 spoilers: Shonda Rhimes talks Webber situation

Are the days of Richard Webber on “Grey’s Anatomy” over? It all depends on how you choose to view the season 9 finale that aired on ABC earlier this week. From one standpoint, it is pretty easy to tell that the man is in trouble, mostly because Shonda Rhimes proved with Eric Dane that she was not afraid to kill off a character after their fate hanged in the balance all summer long. On the flip side, would she really want to kill the character the same year that Adele passed away? We like to think that there is still some sort of story left to tell here.

Unfortunately for all of you out there seeking definitive answers on this subject, there are none at the moment. Instead, Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that she is glad people are wondering about if Richard will survive the electrocution, but she’s not too interested in giving out hints about it for the time being:

“That’s such an interesting question! I love that people are asking that question … I’m not going to answer it because I like that it’s a question. I will tell you that you will see Jim Pickens again, but I’m not going to answer the question.”

Granted, Pickens’ role could just be an episode, as a means to say goodbye to Webber. You can count on one thing here, though: If the actor is leaving the show, producers have done a very good job keeping it a secret. Around this time last year, it was already clear to many that Dane did not have a new contract for season 9, and was likely going to be sent packing.
