‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: Boss talks Cristin Milioti casting

Anytime you are trying to cast an important character on a TV show, it’s a pretty arduous task. However, when that said character is the Mother on “How I Met Your Mother,” the woman that fans have been waiting to see in some form really since the very beginning of the show, that raises the stakes up to headless-chicken levels. We honestly felt like revealing her at any point before the series finale was a mistake, but having Cristin Milioti appear as the character in the closing minutes Monday night, but not without her meeting Ted, ended up being perfect. We have a whole new story to tell, and one that will for sure be touched upon as the show enters its ninth season.

So why Milioti in particular? Speaking after the episode aired, executive producer Carter Bays had the following message to share:

“It was a pretty big umbrella to fill … And yet Cristin is, against all odds, exactly what we were looking for. She made us laugh on 30 Rock, she made us swoon in Once, and her ukulele skills are no joke.”

Also confirmed in here? That presumably, the entire 24 episodes remaining will feature the buildup to the wedding, even if the ceremony is only a matter of days away. Is the show going to become the next “24”? Probably not. While there will be a story to tell in the present day, we also expect there to be some major loose ends that are tied up, along with the story about Cristin’s character from start to finish … a “How I Met Your Father,” if you will.
