ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2 finale spoilers: Looking beyond the ending

“Scandal” fans, is it fair to assess your excitement level as “high” right about now? In just a matter of a few short days, ABC is going to put a pin in season 2, something that has to be declared in one word as a “breakthrough”. The ratings beat “Grey’s Anatomy” this week. Who imagined that? We’re not sure that anyone did. The show is important for the network, for the political soap genre, and even for diversity on TV, plus we love how Shonda Rhimes makes such factors as race and sexual orientation a non-issue.

What you likely know already is that more is on the way, and based on a new Rhimes tweet, the writers are already working on it! Enjoy, and potentially be amazed:

“And now I can tell you that GA Season 10 Writers Room and Scandal Season 3 Writers Room have been going since May 1. So we’re already ahead.”

If you want to know what transpires in the finale, you’re not alone. All we can say for now is this: There will be a shocking ending, Olivia and Fitz will have plenty of screen time, and we can’t imagine that Mellie is going to want to keep dancing this dance for too much longer. Not only that, but the mole story will have more play than a Macklemore single on the radio right now. Just expect the ratings to be huge, and the hype train leaving the station for what should be an interesting third season. When you consider that season 1 started so late and didn’t really have the same sort of audience, this could be what really makes or breaks the show in the long-term.
