‘Burn Notice’ season 7 to be its last, fans of Michael Westen weep
After seven seasons of trying to turn his life back around in Miami, Michael Westen’s journey on “Burn Notice” is coming to an end. On Friday, USA confirmed that the series will be coming to an end within the next year.
From a personal standpoint, we’re surprised by this, and it feels almost like Michael using one of his patent spy techniques to trick us. Why? Most of USA’s most-popular series (or at least “Monk” and “Psych”) have went to eight seasons, and the last year really felt like “Burn Notice” had its first opportunity to be the show that we have long hoped for it to be: A thriller of a spy romp with a story that actually lasted beyond a Person of the Week. (Plus, the actor behind Anson Fullerton in Jere Burns is now killing it over on A&E’s “Bates Motel.”)
In a pair of statements, the two men responsible for running USA each tried to wax poetic on a show that served as a jumping-off point for much of what is now on their schedule.
Chris McCumber – “Burn Notice has had an incredible run over the last six years, and we could not be more proud of the extraordinary talent both in front of and behind the cameras who have collectively made this show into one of the most popular and lauded shows on TV today.”
Jeff Wachtel – “From day one, Burn Notice’s characters, story-lines and mythology have consistently captivated a massive audience, and this final season will raise the stakes even higher, leading up to a spectacular series finale.”
As frustrated as this may make us, at least “Burn Notice” is going out on its own terms, which will likely mean that we will see some sort of giant explosion and Michael punching someone in the face using a pair of brass knuckles made of some metal he welded down in a shack.
Plus, the show gets the rare opportunity to celebrate 100 episodes this summer.
