Ratings: ‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 sets another series high with ‘The Climb’
It only seems appropriate that an episode entitled “The Climb” draws some impressive ratings, and despite being one of the slower “Game of Thrones” episodes that we have seen in the past several weeks, viewers apparently still lapped up every second of it.
Overall, this episode was watched by a total of 5.5 million viewers, and this coupled with a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic each represent new series highs for the show. Once again, this was also enough to make the fantasy series the highest-rated show of the night, beating the finale of “The Amazing Race” and the penultimate episodes of both “Once Upon a Time” and “Revenge.”
So where will the momentum finally slow down for Jon Snow and company? While we typically argue that season 3 is the peak for many shows, we don’t necessarily feel like this is the case here. “Game of Thrones” seasons are fairly short at just 10 episodes, which means that it is easier for new viewers to catch up. Plus, HBO may be able to add more subscribers over time, and people who are now watching the show via other means could eventually become live viewers on their network. At the end of the day, the network really cares more about subscriptions that they do individual viewer figures, and when you factor in all of the different ways that people watch this show, it is just about as important for them as “The Walking Dead” is for AMC.
Do you think the “Game of Thrones” ratings climb is nearing the summit, or do you think this is a show that could climb over seven or eight million viewers next season? If you want to watch a preview for next week’s episode, you can do so over here.
