‘Big Brother Canada’ interview: Jillian MacLaughlin on winning, ‘boring’ use of prize
You may have had a few days now to process the “Big Brother Canada” finale, and regardless of whether or not you feel like Jillian MacLaughlin was the real winner, she is the happy recipient of $100,000, a brand new Chevrolet Trax and a $25,000 shopping spree at The Brick . We also have to say that despite having such a large amount of controversy around her win and facing all sorts of criticism all night long, she was still in great spirits when she stopped by what we referred to as the “fun group” after the taping on Thursday. (We were seated alongside some other TV writers, and it thus became almost like a sort of talk-show format.)
In the video below, which comes courtesy of our friends over at BB Canada Insider, Jillian talks a little bit about her strategy that got her to the top, how production has been very strict on rules all season long, and responds to our preseason pick of her to win the whole show with a high-five. (To be fair, we thought she was going to win using a completely different strategy that was under-the-radar.) She also explained that she had a very “boring” use in mind for the money.
To give you a little insight as to the conditions in the Big Brother backyard, it was approximately a million degrees in there by the time the houseguests arrived, and while we heard that it was pretty warm during the show’s taping, it was not necessarily that warm prior to the finale. It was also a little smaller than it looked on TV, but this is generally the case with everything related to production.
Anyhow, we found Jillian to be very fun and engaging, and this is something that she did not have to be after an emotional few hours, little sleep, and probably a desire to just go be with her friends and family.
If you want to read our lengthy text-based interview with one of Jillian’s adversaries on the show in Peter Brown, you can do so over at the link here.

Jillian did deserve the win, although she won by mistake lol
However, all comps if you made a mistake there are no do-overs so it is what it is!
Congrats Jill and congrats Gary you have a heart of gold.
