ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 2: Meet Mike Kelley’s replacement as showrunner
Late last month, the surprising news first came out that “Revenge” was losing someone in Mike Kelley who in many ways had been an invaluable part of their organization. After all, the man created the show! Not only that, but he also was a key player in making the first season such a critical and commercial hit … even if this one has lagged a little bit when it comes to some of the storytelling. (We’re looking at you, Initiative!)
So where does the series go from here? Sunail Nayar, per Deadline, has stepped up to the plate and will be running the series from here on out. When it comes to hiring the right person for the job, he is at least someone who knows the show very well. He served as an executive producer for season 2, has worked on a number of different series (including “Oz,” which is always a great thing to have on one’s resume), and it is not someone who will be coming into the series blind a la what happened with “Community” going outside the family, which is what really made their entire situation even stranger than most.
Nayar will kick off work on season 3 very soon, and production will likely start in either July or August. While there is no confirmed renewal yet for the show, the fact that they even bothered to make a showrunner switch really gives you a good idea of where ABC’s head is at.
Do you have an opinion on this one way or another, and are you always firmly behind established showrunners getting a chance to see their product expand? If you want to check out a video preview for Sunday night’s episode, be sure to head on over to the link here.
