ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2 finale spoilers: Olivia Pope and the return of the hat

Whenever you hear the words “Shonda Rhimes” and “season finale” mentioned relatively close to each other, it’s also a sure thing that this means there will be trouble for at least a few characters … and possibly even death. In between “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” over the years, Rhimes has established quite the reputation as someone unafraid to embrace tragedy, and also someone willing to shock audiences in ways in which they never saw coming.

So what does this mean when it comes to “Scandal”? This is the first time that the show has had the opportunity to air a full 22-episode season, and based just on the title for the last episode of the year (in “White Hat’s Back On”), we can tell that this is going to be a particularly cool one for fans of Olivia Pope.

With this being the finale, ABC is of course still keeping most of the firm details under wraps. Therefore, all we are getting as a result is the rather short synopsis below:

“With the identity of the mole now closer than ever, Olivia and her team are in very real danger. Meanwhile, the latest White House scandal pushes Cyrus to his limits.”

So who is the mole? This is a question that we would be shocked to not have an answer to by the end of the season. While Jake (Scott Foley) seems to be the top candidate, you almost have to wonder whether or not he is almost too easy of a suspect for it to really be him.
