ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 finale spoilers: Series boss talks ’emotional’ cliffhanger
As we near the season finale of “Castle” that is airing in just two more weeks, there are understandably plenty of important questions to ask. Specifically, we have to wonder just whether or not we are going to see Castle and Beckett really go the distance, or instead crumble into pieces under the weight of everything that has been building for the past several weeks.
Do you remember the concerns that Beckett showed at the end of “The Squab and the Quail”? Those have been starting to slowly percolate in her mind ever since Meredith first gave her a warning earlier this year, and it causes her to wonder whether or not these two can have a deeper relationship beyond just cute one-liners and one part of the pair fully pouring her heart into things while the other stays quiet.
All of this will come to a head in the finale (entitled “Watershed”), and executive producer Andrew W. Marlowe tells TVLine that there are going to be a few loose ends that could need to be tied up when a potential season 6 starts up in the fall:
“There is a bit of a cliffhanger, yeah. It’s an emotional cliffhanger that I think will propel us into some great, complicated, interesting storytelling as we head into next season — assuming the TV gods are kind and grant us one.”
While there has been no confirmation yet on a “Castle” renewal, it’s pretty much a lock. The show recently beat “Revolution” for the first time in the 18-49 demographic, and has proven to be just as strong in that demo as its “Dancing with the Stars” lead-in. Syndication prospects have seemingly helped the show out, and it seems as though it is not going anywhere.

For four years it was wtwt become a couple. Season five they became a couple.. Season six looks like wtwt they stay a couple. I for one am getting a little tired of wtwt. Its getting to be like a soap opera.

I was a little thrown off by the order of the episodes because I just couldn’t believe that ‘Still’ could come before ‘The Squab And The Quail’ because it just didn’t feel right but I do believe that in order to move forward in the relationship they do need to establish what’s to become of them. And I seriously hope that there is a sixth season because I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with myself if it doesn’t come back. I will be a complete mess.

Ok, I’m a little ticked off. Castle saves her life. Moreover, he stays with her when death is imminent. Yet we are supposed to believe that she is so unsure of him that she questions his love and commitment in the very next episode (the Squab and the Quail). I loooooove this show but don’t enjoy being yanked around just for some theatrics.

Okay, they want us to think that they may breakup. I don’t want that! The ending of “The Squab and the Quail” where Kate asked Castle where they were going has me believing she wants a commitment from him. Castle was extremely dense in that episode and he didn’t catch her meaning, or he avoided answering her. I don’t know which. And that question needs an answer! I think he wants to commit to her. He has doubts, but they are flimsy.
Throw in “Still” and you see a man that is so committed to this woman that he stands beside her as they face certain death when all he had to do was turn and run out of the building to survive without her. How much more certainty do we need that he is committed to her? He was willing to sacrifice everything for her. Just to make sure she was not alone in the end. How can a man that would do that for her, not make any other sacrifice needed to make their relationship prosper?
My opinion, Mr. Marlowe will not let them drift too far apart, but he may be willing to make us suffer for it. I dread the suffering, but long for them to be more than lovers and I think he has to take them there before this series ends. God, I sure hope so anyway! Putting them together as lovers only strengthened the show. Need a ring!
