White House Correspondents Dinner 2013: President Obama skewers Fox News, Jay-Z
Since Comedy Central only hosts one celebrity roast a year, we have to find a way to get some of our entertainment in somewhere else. This is where the White House Correspondents Dinner comes into play. It is a completely ridiculous, often hilarious ceremony, and one in which everyone gets to sit down and make fun of each other. The media is often skewered, as is the President himself.
While Conan O’Brien is going to come up a little bit later in the night, we’re going to start things off here by talking about President Obama, and what he ended up bringing to the table. The President came on to the “classic” “All I Do Is Win,” which is really pretty ironic for any president out there. His opening jokes were pretty expected: He made fun at the rumors about him being a Muslim socialist, Jay-Z going to Cuba and saying that Obama talked to him about it, and his comments about a certain Attorney General being attractive.
Some of his best jokes, though, were saved for members of the media. Obama proclaimed that Fox News was upset about the whole controversy regarding the History Channel and “The Bible,” mostly because the Satan character having a physical resemblance to Obama was “unfair to Satan.” Meanwhile, he also chided MSNBC, NBC, Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Fallon. He also joked about everyone in the media being constantly cynical about anything and everything that he does.
Overall, it was a pretty funny evening, even if you take away the politics of the whole ordeal. Obama has proven that he has a great sense of humor, and he is also pretty unafraid to make some jokes at the expense of key figures.
