ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5, episode 22 preview: A different approach to ‘Still’

What are we supposed to think about next week’s “Castle” season 5 episode right now? It’s a good question, but one that we don’t have a concise answer to at the moment. From one standpoint, we think of it as some sort of thriller that features Beckett at risk of losing her life, however there is also going to be enough reflection thrown in here to make you think that this is a clip show. In some ways, it probably is thanks to one simple fact: This episode was a “bonus” one ordered at the end by ABC, so this may have been an easy story for them to construct and build in a short period of time.

ABC really did a pretty smart thing in constructing the promo that aired following the end of “The Squab and the Quail” Monday night, as they chose to not really emphasize anything at all pertaining to the bomb that will be at the center of the story. This is the same reason why this episode, which was originally supposed to air yesterday, was pushed back following the Boston tragedy.

So if you are a longtime member of the “Castle” family, you can probably look at “Still” two ways: As an episode of frustration, or a chance to have some nostalgia and also look forward to the future. While there are going to be flashbacks, the promo also promises that we will get a glimpse into where these characters could go in the future.
