‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder and feelings

While we presented a sneak peek earlier for Thursday night’s “The Vampire Diaries” that is going to focus primarily on “The Originals” (which makes sense given that it is, you know, their backdoor pilot), we’re putting the focus this time around on what will be happening back in Mystic Falls as soon as this episode is actually over. There is, after all, a story still to tell with some of the characters who have been around since before the likes of Rebekah, Klaus, or Elijah were on the scene.

According to Zap2It, one of the themes for the rest of the season is going to be trying to find a way to unravel Elena to the point where she wakes up from her evil trance, and suddenly starts to show off a little bit of her human side yet again. The problem with this? While Elena seems to respond to fear (as we saw with what happened to Bonnie during the prom episode), she is going to have a hard time being afraid for herself. The reason for this is pretty simple: she knows in her heart of hearts that Ian Somerhalder’s Damon is going to save her if things ever become really dangerous, so turning her humanity switch back on is going to be a more difficult task than anyone guessed.

As a matter of fact, it is not going to be a very easy road for Damon, Bonnie, Caroline, and the rest of the Mystic Falls crew to fix this problem over the course of the episodes ahead. Hopefully, we are going to see some sort of resolution to this story by the end of the season … but who knows? The show is full of surprises sometimes, and the finale should provide them.
