‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 video: Stage production ‘spoils’ the premiere
We have seen some pretty fantastic “Downton Abbey” parody videos over the course of the past several weeks, but we have to say almost beyond a shadow of a doubt that the one below really is the best. Not only is it an outstanding, funny production, but it name-drops other showrunners (Shonda Rhimes) and features Colin Mochrie of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” fame taking on the part of series creator Julian Fellowes.
The basic premise of this video directed by John Walton West is pretty simple: as a way in which to give back to American audiences who have been forced to wait several months for “Downton Abbey” to come stateside, Fellowes has opted to give everyone the “special” treat of seeing the entire premiere episode a little bit early in the form of a stage show. Ultimately, some of the “choices” made for this version of the show seem a little bit question, after all everyone is singing all of the lines!
We really do not want to spoil much of anything about this video, mostly because it will ruin the bizarre sort of magic that is presented here. However, we will say that our favorite part of the entire thing has to be a random rant by Mochrie’s Fellowes over why the ghost of Dan Stevens’ Matthew did not appear in one of the musical montages. It’s really a biting bit of satire covering everything from production to the characters to even Edwardian England.
What do you think about this video, and does it do a great job in your mind of really sending up the hit franchise? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below! Meanwhile, you can also check out some early season 4 scoop via Rob James-Collier over at the link here.
