‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder and ‘The Walking Dead’

Ian SomerhalderIt’s been a long time coming, but “The Vampire Diaries” is actually starting to inch forward to a key moment that just about every fan of the show has been eagerly awaiting: graduation. What will happen when Elena, Caroline, Matt, and some other characters finally get a chance to move on from high school? This will be a key question that will hopefully be addressed as thoroughly as possible during the May 16 finale.

Before we come to that, however, we have to place the focus for the time being on something a little bit different: “The Walking Dead,” which is the penultimate episode airing on May 9. While we’re sure that many of these characters would love to be able to think solely about graduation, they have some other problems to take care of. For one, the Salvatores will have to face a crisis potentially at the local hospital, and there will also be the issue of the dead starting to stir a little bit.

Check out the official synopsis for the episode via The CW:

“As Graduation Day approaches, Caroline (Candice Accola) tries to distract Elena (Elena Dobrev) by focusing on simple tasks like sending out announcements, but Elena won’t be swayed from her new obsession. Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) calls Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) to the hospital, where someone has been attacking patients. Still trying to force Katherine (Elena Dobrev) to help her, Bonnie (Kat Graham) refuses to give up on her plan to defeat Silas. As a violent wind storm causes a power outage in Mystic Falls, ghosts suddenly appear – some with good intentions and some bent on revenge.”

The specific guest cast for this hour is being kept under wraps, but we already know for sure that Matt Davis and Stephen R. McQueen are going to be back for at least one episode later this season, and this is probably the one. Whatever happens here should also set the stage rather nicely for the finale, that way the story can jump straight into action without much exposition.
