‘Britain’s Got Talent’: Attraction Shadow Theatre helps show clobber ‘The Voice’ UK
The ratings are in, and the newest season of “Britain’s Got Talent” seems to be quite a winner for ITV. How much so? Let’s just say that the premiere for the Simon Cowell-produced juggernaut managed to completely bulldoze another singing competition in its path on Saturday night.
Overall, Cowell’s series got off to its best start since 2010, as an overall audience of 10.5 million viewers tuned in to see the first round of auditions. This was actually the second-best launch ever for the show, which has been going strong ever since 2007 and has helped to launch such people as Paul Potts and Susan Boyle. This year, some of the early standouts included Arixsandra, a brilliant 11-year old singer, and the moving Attraction Shadow Theatre (which you can see below).
We all expected the show, boosted by the great chemistry now between the judges, to dominate “The Voice” UK, and we actually have to say that this was not as much of a decimation as we once expected it to be. The singing show led by Jessie J and Sir Tom Jones drew an average audience of 6.7 million viewers on the night despite going head-to-head with Cowell for most of the show, and this was its top episode of the season.
Even with that being said, both shows will get more time in the limelight next week as “The Voice” pushes itself later in the night, where it will only compete with “Britain’s Got Talent” for a few minutes. Not only that, but they plan to shorten the run time down to closer to an hour in order to keep people engaged rather than dealing with the near-constant deluge of sad stories.
