‘Elementary’ spoilers: ‘Game of Thrones’ actress to play blast for Sherlock’s past

Natalie DormerJust like she is currently trying her best to tame King Joffrey on “Game of Thrones” season 3, we’re hearing that the woman behind Margaery Tyrell is now going to try to do the same thing with a younger Sherlock Holmes on “Elementary” later this season.

CBS confirmed Tuesday that Natalie Dormer will appear in three episodes moving forward this season as the mysterious Irene Adler, the woman whose murder at the hands of Moriarty really caused the fall of Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) into his addiction. While Watson is clearly Sherlock’s other half when it comes to just pure intellect, Adler was the real romantic love of the character’s life.

In talking about Dormer’s casting, executive producer and show creator Rob Doherty had the following to say:

“We’re moving to the next chapter in our show – and in some ways, to a previous chapter in Holmes’ story. Irene Adler is perhaps the most pivotal relationship in Sherlock’s life, and I can’t think of an actress better suited to the challenge than Natalie.”

This casting is also perfect for Dormer in many ways when it comes to scheduling; since she is no longer among the living, there is no concern about the actress being unavailable for future episodes due to “Game of Thrones.” The HBO series will begin shooting season 4 in July if past traditions hold, so if Margaery survives that long, she will be able to step back into the world of King’s Landing and Westeros without a problem.
