‘Game of Thrones’ season 3, episode 2 preview: Sophie Turner on Sansa, Margaery
While there is no question that Sansa Stark is one of the more polarizing characters on “Game of Thrones” at the moment, we are seemingly on the cusp of seeing a pretty fantastic story form between her character and someone you would not really expect her to be that close to: Margaery Tyrell. What’s so surprising about this? The biggest thing is that basically, the presence of Tyrell has made her more expendable as far as the Lannisters go, and her only real use now to them could be as a negotiating chip in the event that Robb Stark finally gets his army to King’s Landing.
So how is the relationship between these two characters going to develop? This is something that Sophie Turner helps to explain in a new interview with MTV News, as she comments on just what sort of position Sansa is in, and how the character does not seem to be particularly upset about the fact that they Tyrells are not solely acting out of their own best interest in keeping her safe:
“I think it’s probably one of the most interesting dynamics on the show. You wouldn’t expect it … this sincere friendship they develop. Even though the Tyrells are, in a way, using Sansa, but also trying to protect her. I think it’s difficult for Margaery because she acts like an older sister, but she knows the Tyrells might be using her. But their friendship is very sincere.”
The one common bond the two most certainly do share? A mutual experience in dealing with Joffrey Lannister up close and personal. The only major change between the two characters is that Margaery is much more shrewd in how she handles the bratty king, and even behaves at times in a way that makes him want to take notice and be better towards his kingdom. After all, he could need their respect to survive down the road.
