‘Big Brother Canada’ review: Now, with a touch of ‘Evil Dead’
While on most shows we would absolutely hate product placement all over the place, there’s always something fun about the random product placement for a movie in the “Big Brother” house. Why? There is no better advertisement for a film that getting people who have had absolutely nothing to do for over a month to watch it. They will literally say that “Plan 9 from Outer Space” is the best movie of all time when they have nothing better to do.
With that being said, the “Evil Dead” franchise is awesome … so we don’t blame all the rave reviews this week. Plus, it made up for what was a pretty predictable hour save for a brief shouting match between Talla and Gary. In case you’re wondering, Talla passing out did not take place until after the Veto Ceremony, so we probably will not see that until tomorrow.
Now, let’s turn to the vampire-themed Power of Veto competition? Can we all agree that Jillian’s hosting this week was brilliant? Just hearing someone all about having arms and heads and whatever was brilliant, and this was a hosting gig that actually required a little bit of skill for a change. Isn’t it ironic that this is the first challenge that Peter actually tried to win, and actually did worse than he has done in anything else? Of course, Andrew won it, and we had a few minutes of focus on this rather than actual strategy (which was our only real pet peeve since we were getting to know more about the East Coast Mafia alliance with Emmett, Andrew, and Jillian).
At the end of the day, there was not really any surprise at all during the episode. Gary and Topaz of course both stayed on the block, and it looks as though there will be a trail of glitter straight out the door tomorrow night.

I agree, Jillian was a good host, and the screaming Talla was annoying, but the big thing for me is that during this episode, I realized that most people left in the house (and thus are possible winners) are the people who have done basically nothing thus far – competition wise – except for Gary and Emmett (and now it looks like Gary is out). Alec & Peter may have been doing the most manipulating, but honestly, what else have they done, except throw competitions for most of this game. Topaz & Jillian have done nothing except slide by with their showmance men. And now that Topaz is actually doing something, she is targeted to get the boot. But, most of the time – Topaz has been sleeping and Jillian has been lip-locking with Emmett. Talla has done nothing. Andrew, until recently, has done nothing. I’m not a huge fan of Big Brother anymore. Sure, even back in the day, I know manipulation and flying under the radar had something to do with playing/winning the game, but it used to be also about strength challenges & knowledge games. Now, not so much. As soon as a player makes big, smart moves – they are voted out by the “doing nothing, throwing comps, partying hard” group – BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM!!!! I’m not impressed. I’m really interested in knowing who is going to win this inaugural season of BB. Then again, my interest in BB (US) has been waning over the seasons too, so maybe the Canadian one was already a bust in my mind.

That Evil Dead movie looks awful. The best horror films are the ones where you can’t see the evil presence like what used to be made in the 1970s. The crap that they make today in which they hit you over the head with the evil beings is simply not scary. Having to listen to moronic Talla screaming her head off for attention – and, sorry, but she does the things she does because she craves attention – was annoying as hell.
