‘The X Factor’ USA notes: Carly Rose Sonenclar, Tate Stevens, Demi Lovato, Josh Krajcik
We have quite a bit to get to in this new edition of “The X Factor” notes, but we’ll start things off with the latest news regarding Carly Rose Sonenclar and some original music.
Does Carly already have some musicial influences in mind for when she does get a chance to record a full album? It certainly seems that way. Speaking on this very subject as a part of a new interview with USA Today, here is what Sonenclar had to say about some of the people that she is interested in working with moving forward:
“When I get asked this question, I usually say the five artists I look up to the most, and that’s Bruno Mars, Adele, Maroon 5, Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran. If I could put all of them together, that would be the album.”
It is true that she is working on a song with producer Toby Gad, but the details of that are still relatively unclear save for that she was in the studio with him earlier this year. The most recent information that we have comes from CarlyRoseOnline.net, who cites another producer working with Carly in saying that there will be some dubstep incorporated into the mix.
New videos – Now, let’s turn to a trio of new videos featuring everyone from current contestants to past ones to even a show’s current judge in Demi Lovato. The image to the left is the cover of Demi’s upcoming self-titled release, which includes the new single “Heart Attack.” She gave her first-ever performance of the song on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last night, and it was a pretty good time. Also, we have a feeling that people really underestimate how hard it is to hit some of the notes that Demi does during an uptempo track.
In turning to Tate Stevens, the country champ’s new video for “Power of a Love Song” is also now officially available. We’re getting some bizarre international restriction on the video right now (which is strange), which is keeping us from embedding it. However, you can check it out here. If you love country ballads and are already a Tate fan, you’re probably going to love it.
On a different note, how about some love for one of our favorite contestants from season 1 in Josh Krajcik? His debut album “Blindly, Lonely, Lovely” is now available, so be sure to buy a copy! You can also listen to an acoustic performance of “Close Your Eyes” below.

I fall in to that older fan category, and Maggie said it short and sweet regarding Carly, this kid has it, period. The negativity from these children, wow! The world is a big place and all the contestants can find they’re own place in it and have their own success. Yes, most people are going to measure each one by how many records or albums they sell. However, true success isn’t measured by external factors. If they are doing what they love and are touching people’s hearts and souls with their music then they’re successful.

I agree with Heather. Carly wants to be a big star. So she better start singing uptempo songs, not just ballads. Young people are the reason 1D, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, and Katy Perry are super stars. Start catering your music to teens. I’ll buy your music if it’s not all ballady.

….and that, Alex, is one of the reasons I like Carly. She has shown a remarkable ability to adapt to a variety of styles and make them sound unique and fresh. I appreciate and will listen to good music, regardless of genre.
…and all of you people writing off us “older” fans…here’s some facts: Most of us have witnessed first hand the musical roots that make up much of the music listened to today. That doesn’t make us experts but it does mean that we have experienced a much richer variety of music for the most part than the younger generation. If you cared to look, you might find that we are much more open minded about what we listen to than the average teen.
Is Carly a dreamer? You bet! …and there are a whole lot more dreamers (old and young) out there than you might imagine dreaming right along with her. Go Carly Go!

Heather D….I don’t think you truly know the music industry. Noboby is going to “change” the way she sings. In any artists first album, maybe two, they are persuaded to sing things that are more mainstream to the pop culture. But, if the artists’ heart is somewhere else in terms of the style of music they want to produce they’ll do that. It’s happened to a number of very popular artists perhaps you’ve heard of a few: Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston…the list goes on. All of these artists did at least one album doing more pop style of music but wanted to focus on their own style of music and went in that direction. It will be no different with Carly or any artist for that matter. Unless you break in to the industry doing the exact style of music you want to be doing (which isn’t often) it’s a transition most artists go through. And I guarantee one of the songs that she wrote will be one of her first singles released and on her first album, you’re foolish to think otherwise. I’m with Oleo and Alex, I don’t care what she sings, she has an incredible voice and style which I prefer. And, by the way, LA Reid didn’t have a problem with her runs, which you typically don’t sing in Broadway (another examply of your lack of knowledge) Broadway singing is more classical style which does not include runs. LA praised her abilities on numerous occassions and never once said anything about her runs, in fact, one of his favorite performances was the the second time she performed Feeling Good during the final performance night which was filled with runs. If you’re going to throw out some negative comments about someone at least say it with credibility behind it.

im a few years older than carly so idk if i would be considered one of her “older” fans, however i couldnt care less what she sings. i like all music, including pop. i know that no matter what carly sings, she will make it sound incredible, even if she covers a crappy one direction song she’ll make it sound amazing lol…..carly has that magic voice :) <3

I can only speak for myself as one of Carly’s “older” fans…but I personally don’t care what or how she sing it. It will be great regardless.

Carly needs to woo the teen fan base. She can do this by covering One Direction or Taylor Swift. I cringe a little at her music taste because it’s indie rock primarily. Like Bon Iver, Florence and the Machine, etc. 40% of teens listen to that. and stay away from covering a Beatles song. it’s a lose-lose situation.

Yea, Carly is dreaming if she thinks that the label and producers will let her decide what to put on her album. even if she writes the songs, they’ll make it radio friendly. A lot of Carly’s older fans freaked out when they mentioned dubstep in one of her original songs, but that’s becoming popular. She’s not going to cut a jazz or a soul album until maybe 30. Carly said she wants to be a superstar in her audition. that means pop. sorry to you older fans who saw her as a savior. go listen to adele. she’s perfected the soul/pop genre. the producers will change how carly sings too because she’s a little too broadway sounding with her excessive runs and belts. LA Reid had a problem with her vocal runs, as did I. I love her, but she needs to control herself sometimes. It would be cool if she is able to write with Ed Sheeran and have Will.i.am produce her album.

Carly had completed recording one of her own original songs before thenshow aired in September….I bet they’re fine tuning it to be released, if I had to guess. Either way, I can’t wait love her voice and style of music!
