NBC’s ‘Community’ season 4 spoilers: First look at ‘puppet episode’
When you consider that “Community” has dived head-first into the worlds of claymation, “Muppet Babies” parodies, and even 8-bit video games, didn’t it only seem like a matter of time before the show went in the direction of hand puppets? We’re going to be seeing this very thing play out courtesy of “Intro to Felt Surrogacy,” the ninth episode of season 4 airing in a matter of weeks.
While we still don’t necessarily know very much about the episode itself, it certainly looks as though like there is going to be plenty of comedy coming up courtesy of not only the puppets themselves, but the characters’ reaction to them. For example, who ever imagined that Jeff Winger would look so happy with a puppet in his hand? Is he having a reaction akin to Mel Gibson in “The Beaver”? That is certainly the easiest comparison to make right now based on his facial expression.
Of course, we could not write about this photo without mentioning the totally weird / meta idea of Deal Pelton dressed as a puppet, while also using a puppet of himself. This is one of the few “mind = blown” moments the show has given us thus far in a season that has had some high points, but still feels a little but more mainstream that some of the weirdness that we saw during seasons 2 and 3. There are some other weird installments coming, though, including a Christmas episode that will be happening in the warm weather of spring (thanks, NBC schedule-makers).
