‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 premiere spoilers: The road ahead for Joffrey

While one of the joys of “Game of Thrones” is having a whole heap of characters that we love to root for, at the same time some of the allure comes courtesy of having someone who you also love to hate. For the HBO series, this is where Jack Gleeson’s character of King Joffrey enters the picture. He is spiteful, bratty, and completely ruthless all at the same time, and while he may be completely inept when it comes to combat beyond just an elementary level, he also has other people who are willing to fight some of his battles for him.

However, on season 3 we could end up seeing a slightly different dynamic for the character. Are we set to see more of his romantic side? This may be a little bit of a stretch, but at the same time Gleeson tells Entertainment Weekly that from the premiere onward, he is actually going to have a rather different relationship with Margaery Tyrell than he ever had before with the innocent Sansa Stark:

“There’s a different dynamic – he’s trying to impress Margaery with his evil deeds and he’s still rebelling against his mother … There are some disaster dates [with Margaery]. I think he’s a bit unlucky in love.”

Of course, part of the reason for Joffrey’s lack of success in the romance department is probably the fact that he is completely to obsessed with trying to come up with ways to rip people’s heads off. It’s a little too difficult to deal with love when you have something else on the brain, even when you have someone at your side in Margaery, who understands the political implications and power that comes with her title much more than Sansa ever did.
