‘Supernatural’ season 8, episode 18 review: Are these standalone episodes working for you?

SupernaturalWe have a feeling that Wednesday night’s new “Supernatural” episode is going to be pretty divisive to the show faithful. After all, this was something that no one really needed when it came to the story: there was no Castiel, no Naomi, and very little mentioning of the tablet storyline at all. However, we did have a pretty entertaining standalone episode that felt a little bit like an evil version of “X-Men.”

The good news for this episode is that we saw the return of Krissy Chambers, though she was not in a particularly great situation as she was a part of a teen hunter group that was being “taken care” of. What was really surprising about this story was just how dark the story ended up getting. We saw, after all, this man in Victor really played a part in killing these hunters’ families, that way they would blame the beasts and end up with him so that he could train them. He’s like Dr. Charles Xavier on acid.

This episode did at least have a happy ending, as Krissy and her fellow young hunters were rescued, and she promised to never go hunting again and only use her powers to protect herself. Well and good, right? Let’s just hope that she will be able to stay safe for the rest of her time (though that seems unlikely given this show).

Ultimately, this was an enjoyable episode of the show, but one that really doesn’t do much for us outside of get us more excited for what comes next for the tablet. Luckily, Sam’s second trial is coming up next week, and we are also going to be seeing the return of someone with some very distinct ties to Dean: Benny.

What did you think about this episode, and are you enjoying some of these standalone hours? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and you can also read some more about what lies ahead over at the link here.
