Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien quiet over latest ‘Tonight Show’ developments
After going through the wringer a few years ago when it comes to his prompt dismissal from “The Tonight Show,” Conan O’Brien is suddenly staying quite about what is happening over on NBC.
Monday night’s edition of “Conan” on TBS would have served as the perfect opportunity for the former “Late Night” and “Tonight Show” host to really dive into what is becoming an increasingly nasty round of rumors. Ever since reports surfaced that the network was looking at shifting Jimmy Fallon into the 11:34 p.m. timeslot in the fall of next year when Leno’s contract is up, the internet has exploded, and talk of both Conan and David Letterman’s past situations have come up. However, at the moment there seems to be a difference: if Leno serves out the remainder of his contract, than this is hardly an incident of the network firing him.
As for Leno’s own show Monday night, he was also surprisingly subdued following a week of pretty harsh jokes directed at NBC’s ratings and their executives. Instead, he talked more about some of his favorite topics including current events, politics, and celebrities. Could it be that someone talked to him? It’s either that or that Jay wants to go out on a high note, and he has started to realize that NBC is not planning to just send him straight out the door here in order to make way for somebody else.
What do you think about Conan staying quiet about this situation altogether, and about Leno suddenly not joking about the network at all? Be sure to share some more of your thoughts below, and you can see whether or not Leno has given Fallon his blessing as a successor over at the link here.
