ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2, episode 16 preview: Lisa Edelstein prepares for Olivia

In the time that we have spent sitting around and getting excited about Thursday night’s new “Scandal” season 2 episode, it has been almost easy to forget about the noteworthy arrival coming on board the show: former “House” star Lisa Edelstein. She will be playing a powerful corporation boss who (as you would expect) is going through a rather difficult time in her life, as a man who is a current Supreme Court nominee is being accused of having an affair with her.

So did this really happen? The sneak peek below does not say, and instead focuses in part on the insanity outside of her house. The media immediately scares her daughter, and it is up to the character first and foremost here to try and find a way to take care of her family before working to figure out just what she can do about the situation. While her husband denies to the children that their mother would do anything like this, who knows if he is really telling them the truth?

Ultimately, Edelstein’s character is offered a bailout courtesy of someone who is going to come and help her “fix” the situation: Olivia Pope. As for whether or not this will actually work, that is what we will find out before this episode as a whole comes to a close. She is better at her job than almost anyone in Washington, but there is quite a difference between being very good and being perfect. (There’s also a little bit of irony here given that Olivia has had an affair with the very man in President Grant who is appointing this nominee.)
