‘American Idol’ top 9 preview: Why Paul Jolley, Amber Holcomb are in trouble
The Lennon / McCartney songbook is clearly not for everyone, but on Wednesday night’s new “American Idol” episode, we are going to see the top nine singers this season do their part to travel a road that so many other singers have been on before. If you want to see some of our song predictions, you can do so over at the link here; after all, this article is geared more towards predicting the actual results.
If we had to first and first proclaim who is going to be safe, that is a three-way tie easily between the big three of this season (all ladies): Angie Miller, Kree Harrison, and Candice Glover. You may as well write them all into at least the top 7, if not further given how the next few weeks go. Meanwhile, Lazaro Arbos probably has another week left of his story touching people all around the globe.
So who is in danger moving forward to this show? While two of these names may not surprise you, one will.
Paul Jolley – He’s a country music hopeful, and the Beatles don’t always fully mesh well with this. He is going to have his work cut out for him trying to pick a song that does not make him look cheesy in any way. Plus, his vocals have consistently been pushed a little too hard.
Devin Velez – A beautiful singer, but his bottom two placement was an indicator that his personality is not really doing anything for people watching at home. He has to find a way to pick it up, and to bring people into his world.
Amber Holcomb – So is Amber one of the three worst singers? Not at all, but remember that she was not in the top 4 last week despite getting the coveted pimp spot. This does not bode so well for her this week, when she will likely go earlier in the show, and has a style a little less distinctive than the other ladies.

Amber Holcomb – in Motown Week: It’s all about ‘presence’ and that takes soul confidence. Yes, Amber has true shades of Whitney in her voice. Girl, you gotta step out in Motown Week like a Lead Singer in a great girl-group… and you own the whole thing! Prayers for you Amber. You will do it… You got this!
