‘America’s Got Talent’ sets June return for Heidi Klum, Mel B’s debut
After the Olympics in part forced an early start to this past season of “America’s Got Talent,” we come bearing some good news now: you will be seeing the NBC talent competition return at a little bit more of an ordinary time this year.
NBC announced on Tuesday that Tuesday, June 4 would be the official return date for the singing competition, which is especially perfect once you remember that this is the time frame where the show has done so well in the past. Last year, it may have been hurt thanks to some competition from “MasterChef,” “The Bachelorette,” and “Hell’s Kitchen” in the early going, and it took a little bit longer for the season, the first with Howard Stern as a judge, to find its feet.
This time around, Simon Cowell is going for a completely different feel. The music mogul has hired Heidi Klum and Mel B to replace Sharon Osbourne, making the show one with a four-judge panel for the first time. This is the same format that the British version of the show currently uses, and it has turned out to be very successful there. (Then again, when in the world is Howard going to have enough time to say everything that he wants to?)
“America’s Got Talent” ultimately needs whatever help it can get this year, mostly because we have already seen time and time again other singing-themed reality shows beaten up badly by a market that is beyond saturated (to say the least). “American Idol” and “The X Factor” each dropped considerably in their second seasons, and the big test next will come with “The Voice.”
