‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: Will Kate Walsh, Caterina Scorsone return?

Grey's AnatomyEven though “Private Practice” ended after six seasons earlier this year, Shonda Rhimes is not forgetting that these characters are still very much a part of the “Grey’s Anatomy” universe. With that in mind (along with the fact that Kate Walsh said that she is open for another appearance as Addison in the future), it looks like we could at least see one more instance of worlds colliding before the landmark medical drama comes to a close.

In speaking about this possibility in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the showrunner makes her opinion very clear that before the series ends, which could be next year given that Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey’s contracts will be up then, it would be almost imperative for her to have one more opportunity to say goodbye to one of her most-famous characters:

“I would love to see Addison back at Seattle Grace at some point for a visit … I’ve said a million times that before the show ends its run, Addison has got to put on her shoes and scrub cap and come scrub in at the hospital. That’s a given for me.”

Rhimes also very much leaves the door open for possibly seeing Caterina Scorsone return as Derek’s sister Amelia given the family history that is there:

“Amelia is Derek’s sister, and I’m going to want to see that happen at some point as well.”

While sort of the storylines for the rest of “Grey’s Anatomy” this season may be set in stone at this point, there will be plenty of opportunities in a potential season 10 to see either of them back for an episode … especially if this is the farewell tour, in which case we would surely see a whole heap of characters from the past turn up again.

Is there anyone else from “Private Practice” that you would want to see on “Grey’s Anatomy” moving forward? If you want to watch a preview for Thursday night’s new episode, you can do so over here.
