‘The Sing-Off’ will return to NBC for season 4 … but during the holidays

The Sing-OffFor those of you who love “The Sing-Off,” then you are already very well aware of the fact that it may be one of the stronger singing competitions on TV. It requires creativity from its contestants, there fewer drippy sob stories, and the judges actually give real, constructive feedback. The only problem with the show was that for whatever reason, NBC opted to put the third season of the show in the fall of 2011 directly against “Dancing with the Stars” and the CBS comedy lineup, when it has been prior to that a competition that aired during the holiday season.

Luckily, it appears as though NBC has learned from their mistakes, and looks to be bringing the show back for season 4 during the holiday season yet again. As for the reasoning behind this, it seems pretty simple. Season  3 champs Pentatonix have become pretty huge on YouTube, and Mark Burnett’s production company (which also runs “The Voice”) is coming on board to help out. There is a casting site that has already been created, and you can view more information on that here.

As for the judging panel, there is no word just yet on if Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman, and Sara Bereilles will return for another go-around, just as it is unclear if Nick Lachey will once again serve as host. Ultimately, we hope so if for no other reason than that their chemistry was actually pretty great.

We’re sure it comes across at this point that we’re thrilled by this news. “American Idol” is stuck in the middle of an extremely boring season, mostly because the contestants have all been conditioned into being bright-eyed dreamers bent on singing ballads and having no personality whatsoever.

Oh, and for fun you can check out Pentatonix’s epic Swedish House Mafia mash-up below.
