‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4: Ian Somerhalder on change in Nina Dobrev’s Elena

The Vampire Diaries CastThursday night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries” is going to be a rather crucial one for a number of reasons, but we have a feeling that the primary one will be providing us with the crucial first look at what Elena Gilbert is going to be like now that she does not have a little something known as humanity to fall back on. Are we going to see a much more vengeful character than we did previously? It’s possible, but you are also going to be seeing a much freer and funnier side of the character without a certain something known as stress weighing her down.

Ian Somerhalder previewed the episode in a new interview with E! News, and he had the following to say on the subject of just how much Elena has changed just in the span of an episode:

“Now she’s a bada** and she can crack jokes … Every time she walks out of the house we’re not biting our nails thinking someone is going to come kill her. She can fight for herself.”

It’s clearly the latter statement that is the most significant to us, as for the first time in really three seasons, the Salvatore brothers do not have to focus most of their energy on trying to protect some young girl that they are both in love with. So what do they do now? This is in many ways the million-dollar question; all of this free time is suddenly open for them to focus on their lives, and try to figure out just what exactly they want out of them.

Is this not enough “Vampire Diaries” scoop from you? If you want to hear what Somerhalder and Paul Wesley said recently about the episode in a new video, you can check it out here.
