‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Michelle Dockery, Allen Leech’s characters bond
While we and a plethora of other “Downton Abbey” uber-fans have expressed our horror at the thought of Mary and Tom Branson getting together on the fourth season of the show, we now have a reason for you to breathe a massive sigh of relief: it does not look as though that pairing is going to be happening anytime soo in a romantic sense.
Speaking in a new interview with TV Guide, series star Michelle Dockery seemed to almost make a verbal “not impressed” face (thanks, McKayla Mulroney!) when asked about whether or not we could see the widow and the widower try to drown their sorrows in each others’ arms moving forward on the show:
“Oooh, I can’t do that. He’s my brother-in-law!”
Allen Leech concurred, saying that the two characters come from “completely different worlds,” and there is ultimately just not enough common ground between them to really make something like this work even in the slightest.
However, Dockery did tell the publication that we are going to be seeing a budding friendship between the two parties moving forward on the series, with one of the major commonalities between the two of them being the fact that they have both lost someone who they care about very deeply:
“We will be spending so much more time together, from what we’ve already seen in the early episodes … We’re delighted by that. It’s going to take them both some time before they find someone new.”
As we reported recently, this is going to be quite a season for Leech’s Tom, and about midway through the seas the action will pick up for him to the point where there are some pretty “exciting” new developments.
What do you think: will a Tom / Mary friendship be fun for you watch? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below!
