‘Shark Tank’ review: CordaRoy’s, Baby Loves Disco, Cellhelmet, a cowboy workout
The new episodes of “Shark Tank” just keep coming, and we couldn’t be happier! (Just as we couldn’t be happier that the show dropped that cell phone product placement.)
In speaking of phones, though, there is a product designed to protect them in this episode, as there was also a nightclub for kids (but in the daytime), a workout tape featuring an extremely enthusiastic cowboy, and what looked like an extremely comfortable bean bag chair that also serves another purpose. As always, we have attached links to all of the products along with our personal reviews.
Baby Loves Disco – First of all, we love the name. While disco may not be hip, it sums up exactly what the business is about: trying to bring a nightclub experience to children during the daytime. There are some pretty cool ideas mixed in the premise here, since the idea of giving children a healthy environment to exercise and have fun is great.
However, there are unfortunately more issues with the product than there are advantages, with the primary one being that these way too many things going on with this product. There were sponsors, word-of-mouth-advertising, and complicated sales figures. It just felt way too disorganized, and in watching it we really have no idea what their plan is moving forward. Can we chalk this up to two people biting off way more than they can chew?
Lose 12 Inches with Any 12 Workouts – First of all, we still have a hard time stomaching the cowboy at the center of this pitch. Why? To be frank, and as we said in our preview video, his personality is irritating to us, and regardless of whether or not his workout is effective, we would just have a hard time dealing with him.
The Cowboy’s Rodeo Abs machine was actually the best part of his presentation, since it was something that could produce tangible results. As for the rest of the claims, we’re always nervous about any trainer who claims that you will lose X amount in X amount of time. Changing your body should not have a set limit to us! Lori Grenier was seemingly ready to go “out,” but then the Cowboy fought for his life. This annoys us, and we’re happy that Lori actually went out here rather than giving this guy and his many risks a chance. Then again, Daymond John ultimately ended up ruining the whole “Lori says no” arc and gave Ryan the ab-tastic cowboy a chance.
Cellhelmet – The good thing about this business is that we know that cell phone cases are a big deal, and that there are people who are quite frankly terrified that their phones are going to break. Sadly, this is where the good things end here, and it’s almost not worth spending much time talking about. There is too much competition in this space, and the repair time is too long for those who use their phones on a regular basis. Sorry, guys.
CordaRoy’s – This is awesome. By far, CordaRoy’s is the best product on the show this week. It looks supremely comfortable, it has sold pretty well, and these could be very successful in the college dorm and the apartment market where you don’t have a lot of room for a regular bed, but you could use this for a variety of purposes.
While this is something we would totally buy, there are three primary problems with it. It may be too expensive, it is something consumers would buy on impulse, and not everyone wants a modified bean bag chair in their house. From the get-go, this was really a product that screamed Lori, and the company’s success was largely dependent on what she wanted to do with it. She came in with a rough offer of $200,000 for 60%, which was basically her saying that his $1 million evaluation was vastly off-base. This was an interesting negotiation, but Lori ended up getting her deal with the company … but for 58%.
Were there any products that you would want that were in this week’s broadcast? If you want to see some more highlights from “Shark Tank” this season, you can do so over at the link here.
