‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Kevin Hart talks Eddie Murphy, compares gig to VMAs
We are now a few hours away from a promising edition of “Saturday Night Live” featuring Kevin Hart as host, and the comedian himself is doing just about everything he can to say the right thing about what will hopefully be an exciting 90 minutes of television tonight. After all, this is a guy notorious for making people laugh, and over the past couple of years he has exploded onto the mainstream with hosting gigs at the BET Awards along with the MTV VMAs.
So how does Hart compare the latter gig to doing this show? Speaking in a new interview late this week with NBCUniversal Direct, he explained that in some ways the two gigs were both even; however, there was just something about the prestige of “SNL” to him that makes him more excited to do this show than just about anything else:
“For a standup comedian, this is what we live for … VMAs were amazing, but this definitely surpasses that.”
Hart also explained that some of his favorite “Saturday Night Live” sketches of all time date all the way back to the time of Eddie Murphy and when he ran the place, though he did in particular love the sketch featuring Kenan Thompson as the Christmas tree pimp from earlier this season. Just as it was highlighted in this video, we anticipate Hart’s height being something that the show exploits on a pretty regular basis; in addition to that, we also see him getting the rare opportunity to do an opening monologue that thankfully does not involve any singing whatsoever.
Are you excited to see this weekend’s edition of “SNL”? If you want to watch another preview that focuses almost entirely on Jason Sudeikis and Hart interacting with each other, you can do so over at the link here.
