‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6 spoilers: Kurt Sutter talks Jimmy Smits, new guest stars
Earlier this week, you probably heard the good news: both Donal Logue and Jimmy Smits are confirmed for more “Sons of Anarchy,” and not only that, but the two will be around for most, or in Smits’ case, all of season 6. Now, we have the opportunity to hear the perspective of executive producer Kurt Sutter on the news.
In the latest chapter of “WTFSutter” (which you can see below with a warning for language), the showrunner explains that they had Logue locked in for 8-10 episodes last year, and just set Smits’ return in tone so that he can continue to tell some exciting stories involving Nero and Gemma, along with the impact that this relationship will ultimately have on Jax. This dynamic was one of our favorite aspects of season 5, so we are thrilled to see it back.
In addition to that, Sutter also explained what the current plan is when it comes to other guest stars this season, and it sounds as though there will not be a character of equal important to season 6 the way Nero first was when he arrived on the scene:
“We have a couple of other characters … I wouldn’t say major characters this season, but we have a couple of other interesting characters we are setting up. I’m not sure what that process will be like: I don’t know if we’ll offer that to somebody people know, or offer that to some lesser-known actors. My sense is that we’ll probably cast a wide net and initially look at both, and then cast whoever is best in the role.”
Sutter does have a knack for making interesting, surprising, and oftentimes cool casting choices; for evidence, just look at Dave Navarro and Joel McHale from this past season.
