‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8, episode 18 preview: The playbook lives on
Even though one Barney Stinson seemed to have burned his famous Playbook on “How I Met Your Mother” late last year, it still hasn’t left his mind … at least based on some of the hilariously wacky dreams that he is still having about it.
In the sneak peek below from Monday night’s “Weekend at Barney’s,” we have a look at what is a play of the same name. It’s pretty incredible just how close of an homage to the cheesy classic that the show pulled off here, complete with Barney looking like a dead person to the best of his ability. Somehow, Barney seems to believe that this is one of the greatest plays that he’s ever done, which is completely crazy considering that no one in their right mind would be attracted to someone who looks like that.
If you are a “How I Met Your Mother” historian, you know that this is not the first time the movie has been mentioned. In the season 5 episode “The Rough Patch,” Ted discovered a message recorded by Barney on a certain adults-oriented video, and it contained the following plea:
“Hello, Ted. If you’re watching this tape, and I knew you’d pick this one, you are now in possession of my [X-rated footage] This can only mean two things: Either I’m dead, or I’m now in a committed relationship. If I’m dead, I want you to honor my memory by taking my body to the Hamptons and re-creating Weekend at Bernie’s. I wanna dance, I wanna have sex with a girl, and I wanna go fishing. If, on the other hand, I’m in a committed relationship, then as your best friend, I have only one request: Please, for the love of God, get me out of this!”
Is this a possible omen of things to come? We don’t know the answer to that just yet. However, we can at least say that there is going to be a feeling of sadness following this episode based on just how little there is left of this season. There are nearly three months left in the TV season, but after this episode, only six “How I Met Your Mother” episodes. In total, there are only 30 more episodes in the series altogether.
