‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Moving forward from the season 3 finale
Sunday night, for at least fans of “Downton Abbey” in America, is going to be a night of big transition. One season of the hit drama series is going to be over, and another one will be beginning in the United Kingdom in just over six months. Finally, all of the secrets that have been kept tightly (by at least some) can be revealed, and both sides of the pond will be talking about the same thing: season 4.
We recently presented you with a series of small scoops for Sunday night’s finale pertaining to the servants, and now we’re going to do the same thing with the upstairs clan. Not only are we going to share these teasers, though: we’re also going to provide an explanation as to how these may be relevant for the upcoming collection of episodes (which will tragically still not air in America until early next year):
1. Remember Rose? Well, she will be back in an enormous way this week after her brief appearance during the last episode. Her story is especially going to be appropriate for a pair of surprise characters, who start to understand to what extent British society is fully changing.
2. Edith’s journey during the finale is going to be one of self-sufficiency, and Laura Carmichael has already suggested that this will be a theme that carries over very much into the new year.
3. As for Tom Branson, you will see him do something during this episode that makes him realize just how much he misses Sybil, and it will leave a significant impression on him for months to come.
4. As for the final scoop, watch the last five minutes. We’re not going to say anything, at least other than that it will change the entire course of what season 4 is about.
If you want to read a little bit more about “Downton Abbey” season 4, including why Hugh Bonneville is adopting a no-spoilers policy while shooting it, you can do so over at the link here.

I’m with the others. Matthew was one of the highlights of the show for me, along with Violet.

I’m glad to see other people annoyed at the death of Matthew. He was the best part, really. Matthew and Mary took so darned long to get together and they didn’t have much time once they did. I really hope this doesn’t bring the inheritance issue up again. I agree that Mary has endured enough grief.

Well, I am done with Downton Abbey. Matthew’s death made one too many young people to die. I won’t be returning for Season 4.
I pretty much figure once the estate is a huge financial success , Patrick will show back up, armed with credible info and take the inheritance. Why not? This story has turned into America’s “Grapes of Wrath”.

I am torn about losing Matthew – he and Mary were such a strong part of Downton. There are still several other stories to play out so will see what comes with Season 4.
But, PLEASE get rid of Rose or have another actor play the part – she’s just annoying and there enough annoying characters all ready in the mix. Im so glad Cora and Robert are still getting along and hope that Edith finds happiness – not sure it will be with her editor tho!!!

Like Mash when Henry left, I think that the show will lose much of its appeal. Matthew and Mary’s love affair was at the heart of the show. Rose is much too annoying as a character. Good luck but doubtful that I will watch again.

I think I remember seeing a similar sub-plot on Upstairs/Downstairs. Butcher wants to marry the cook. He’s a cad.

So it would seem the precedent set for Downton is: every time a child is born a parent must die. Let’s hope there are no more births…unless it’s the love child of Thomas and O’Brien.

I like Rose. I think she is cute and funny. Almost like a random joke when everyone in the room is too serious! Matthew and Sybil will continue to be missed, but I am sure that Downton will continue to be fabulous. The only death that would be unbearable would be the death of Downton Abbey… Live on!!!!

Very disappointed, like others, with Matthew dying, but at least I won’t be holding my breath now for next season. I don’t really care now if they have another season. Matthew and Mary’s relationship was central to the storyline. Fellows has a mighty job on his hands to keep up the viewership now, I believe.

Disappointed on season 3 ending, does someone always have to die.

I Will continue to watch Downton Abbey because I think it is still an excellent series. I’m still Extremely upset that they killed Matthew off instead of recasting his character. The writers will have to do one heck of a job with the scripts to keep me all the way through season 4 …..

Wow. I really feel like Sevens could’ve done Downton as well as his other projects. Without him, what kind of center does the show have? And Rose is totally annoying; not looking forward to seeing Lady Mary’s grief. Give the woman a break.

After killing Matthew off, don’t think I really want to watch anymore.
