‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Who is set to return?

We all know that death has played a pretty significant role on “The Vampire Diaries” over the years, and the worst is not over yet. As a matter of fact, another prominent person will join Kol six feet under before the season comes to its official end a little bit later this spring.

But in the midst of speculating as to who is going to end up kicking the bucket, have we missed something else? Based on some of the scoop being bandied about at the moment, the answer here appears to be very much “yes.” According to a new report from TVLine, there is going to be a significant return to the show in the weeks ahead that is not being talked about very much. As for who are the primary candidates here, we can really only think of a pair of names:

1. Katherine – Nina Dobrev’s other character has only been seen once this year, and it was via a fantasy sequence. While executive producer Julie Plec has said that Katherine has no interest being around Klaus, we do know that Joseph Morgan’s character will be leaving to New Orleans eventually (as it is the site of his spinoff show).

2. Elijah – We know that he is going to be coming back to the show, given that will be a part of “The Originals” when that episode airs on April 25. What remains a question right now is if he will spending much time in Mystic Falls before that happens.
