‘Glee’ season 4 song spoilers: Naya Rivera, Chord Overstreet fight it out
Are you ready for the vocal battle of the ages? When it comes to Thursday night’s new “Glee” season 4 episode, Santana and Sam are going to be doing more than just singing: they will be fighting to claim Brittany as their own. While we don’t know what the end result of this is going to be right now, we can say this: if we were to declare a winner here based solely on vocals alone, Naya Rivera’s character would win by a long shot.
Really, it’s almost unfair to ask Chord Overstreet (or anyone, for that matter) to try to compete against Santana’s fantastic voice, especially since Rivera has worked so much on making her voice even stronger ever since the beginning of the show. “Make No Mistake (She’s Mine)” is set to be as powerful a performance as we have seen from Santana thus far, especially as she realizes just how much she is set to lose if she does not get what she wants. Was she okay with setting Brittany free earlier this season? Sure, but there is a pretty substantial difference between doing this and then hearing that they are now dating someone else in the same glee club. (The fact that Sam and Santana have made out before makes this whole situation even more strange and incestuous.)
None of this review is meant to slam Overstreet ultimately in any way, as he does also do a great job in the video. The reality is that for us, Sam and Brittany are not a bad match by any means: they are both likable characters, and there are reasons to cheer for them together. The issue here is that like when Brittany was dating Artie, the relationship is still drowned out by everyone wanting to see her with someone who has loved her for years and often in secret.
Who do you prefer listening to in this performance? Be sure to share some more your thoughts below, and you can also hear some more music from this episode featuring Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) over at the link here.
