‘Top Chef,’ ‘Buckwild’ each renewed for additional season
We have a pair of cable TV renewals to announce; and while they are each technically within the reality genre, they could otherwise not be any more different.
“Top Chef” – After ten seasons of traveling all over the country and tasting some phenomenal food, Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio are not done yet. Bravo announced Wednesday that the show will indeed be back for an eleventh season later this year, though there is no official location announced as of yet. They are honestly running out of locations now that are true culinary centers of inspiration; they have yet to visit New Orleans save for the finale of a previous season, though we would imagine at the moment that the leading candidates would either be the deep south (i.e. Atlanta, Nashville, or Charleston), or somewhere in New England to capitalize on all of the seafood that comes in with the region.
“Buckwild” – The more controversial of the two, “Buckwild” was routinely criticized by residents of West Virginia of stereotyping their state in the same way that “Jersey Shore” did New Jersey. However, it did pull solid ratings that were more or less on par with “Jersey Shore” season 1, and that was enough to convince MTV to greenlight another series of episodes to either air in the fall or early next year.
By that time, let’s just hope that some of these characters find a little bit more to do besides drink and hook up with each other.
