‘Downton Abbey’ season 4: Jimmy Fallon brings back classic ‘Downton Sixbey’
For those of you who love “Downton Abbey,” and also love “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” you are almost sure to celebrate the return of the show’s classic sketch “Downton Sixbey.” With the show currently in its third season in America, and with the planning going strong for season 4, there was really no better time for this sketch to return.
Ultimately, this new edition (which you can see below) is both hilarious as well as disgusting. There was an elaborate scene involving drinking, which is really the only thing that we want to say without ruining the surprise, and there was also plenty of talk surrounding the NFL’s replacement referees from earlier this season along with the present-day budget crisis. For those of you looking for specific “Downton Abbey” jokes, there was also plenty of reference given to the fact that the Abbey is scrambling to find a way to stay afloat in an ever-changing society.
The moment that will likely receive the most buzz here occurred at the end of the sketch, when Questlove of the Roots showed up with his wife (played by Whoopi Goldberg), and asked for one of the daughters’ hand in marriage. However, it was not exactly the daughter that you would have initially imagined.
“Downton Sixbey” has grown in popularity since its original premiere, and with “Jersey Shore” (and thus “Jersey Floor”) gone, we imagine that Fallon will be relying on it and some other familiar sketches now more than ever.
If nothing else, think of the video as a great watch to keep the show in your mind as season 4 begins filming this month. At the moment, the premiere date in the UK is still set for the fall, and we have yet to see any indication that PBS will shift up the American premiere to an earlier date.
