‘American Idol’ notes: David Archuleta, Scotty McCreery, Crystal Bowersox
We’re just one day away from “American Idol” starting up in Hollywood Week, and the focus of our latest edition of show notes is trying to do our best to showcase some new music from a couple of former runner-ups. Not only that, but we have a new announcement that fans of Scotty McCreery will surely want to stick around for.
Introducing “Don’t Run Away” – Remember how we first told you last week that David Archuleta is releasing a new album (entitled “No Matter How Far”) on March 26? Well, we just had an opportunity to listen to the first single in “Don’t Run Away.” The song was actually first recorded over a year ago, and originally leaked this past full in a lower-quality version.
What do you think of the sound here? Be sure to share a comment below! This single is being shipped to AC stations at the moment, in hopes that it can find some success there similar to how Phillip Phillips did with “Home” last year.
Speaking of new music … Want a new tune from Crystal Bowersox? The season 9 star, who still has to be regarded as of the most-underrated talents in the show’s history, has just released her brand-new single “Dead Weight.” It’s a song that Bowersox says is incredibly important to her, and if you love good folk music you may get a little teary-eyed listening to this (even with the constant reminders that “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” first premiered the song).
In case anyone’s curious, we still consider “Father’s Daughter” the best debut album from an “American Idol” alum to date.
Scotty McCreery to help announce ACM nominees – Finally, a brief update for Scotty McCreery fans: the season 10 champ is going to be joining Little Big Town, Seacrest, and many others in helping to present the 2013 Academy of Country Music Award nominees. Want to know more? Check out the video below via Beth Behrs from “2 Broke Girls” (who claims that she is a huge country fan).

I love Don’t Run Away. I already preordered David’s album. Amazingly this is the 3rd album released while David is on his 2-year church mission – Forevermore (Philippines), BEGIN (US) and now No Matter How Far. I love the cover too with the bits of turquoise and Matt Clayton photo. Crystal’s song sounds wonderful too – I wish her good luck with it!
