NBC’s ‘Smash’ season 2: Katharine McPhee hilariously meets Russell Brand
Just in case you want to see a little bit more of Katharine McPhee prior to the season 2 premiere of “Smash” on Tuesday night, we should start things off by saying this: we’re not sure if she will ever completely be the same after what happened to her courtesy of Russell Brand. The British comedian made an appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” Monday alongside McPhee, and what ultimately happened was nothing short of hilarious.
Let’s try to sum it up by saying the following: Brand relentlessly hit on her for almost the entirety of the interview, and then found out that she was married. At which point, he got up, set off the censors, walked off the stage, and then gave someone in the audience a cup. Katharine seemed largely stunned by the whole course of events, but it was still a pretty nice platform for her to promote her hit NBC show.
Before we get into the McPhee part of the interview, can we just say how happy that we are to see the old, antagonistic Russell Brand back? He had lost some of his fire in recent years, but this is the sort of hilarity that we missed from earlier in his career.
As for the rest of the interview with McPhee, it was pretty standard with her and Jimmy talking about the show, her beloved San Francisco 49ers losing the Super Bowl, and how she ended up meeting some of the Barbaugh family. Compared to the portion of her chat with Brand commandeering it, it almost felt like family hour.
What do you think about this interview, and about Brand’s behavior? If you want to read some more teases for the premiere, you can do so over at the link here.
