‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8 spoilers: Cobie Smulders on Robin Sparkles’ return

Are you ready for what could be the final chapter of Robin Sparkles on “How I Met Your Mother”? While it is possible that the writers could go back to the Canadian well for at least one more story during the final season, the entire backstory of one Robin Scherbatsky would be complete on Monday night, even if it is never touched upon again after this.

Much of the theme surrounding “P.S. I Love You” will be witnessing the downfall of the once-cheery character into something completely different, and speaking to TVLine series co-creator Craig Thomas explained first of all when leads to this side of Robin being brought up as a topic of conversation in the first place:

“Robin reveals that she was very much obsessed with somebody in her past … She acted a little bit crazy. It makes Barney go out there and try to find that person. He becomes obsessed with finding this person. He goes on this mission, and at the end, [he] finds this video.”

Within this video, we are going to see a much grungier version of Sparkles that the cheery blonde who once sang about going to the mall. For Cobie Smulders, she admitted that this was just a blast to play:

“It was a lot of fun in the hair and makeup room … There was some wigs used and a lot of wardrobe changes. Anytime we get to go on set and just let things happen and just have fun – and when you’re shooting a music video, especially on our show, there’s no dialogue — whatever happens, happens. We were able to create this really bizarro video.”

As you may know already, this episode in particular is going to contain a lion’s share of guest stars as wee a “Behind the Music” sort of documentary about the pop star, including Alex Trebek, K.D. Lang, and many more. Overall, it should be one for the book of legend…ary things.
