‘The X Factor’ USA notes: Carly Rose Sonenclar, Fifth Harmony, Demi Lovato
Did you catch the StageIt show with Carly Rose Sonenclar Friday night? If you did, you got quite a treat in being among the first people to hear the “X Factor” USA star’s cover mash-up entitled “After Tonight There’s Trouble.” The two songs featured in here are Justin Nozuka’s “After Tonight” as well as the hit “I Knew You Were Trouble” … and it’s awesome.
We wish that the singing competition really allowed the contestants to do more original acoustic jams like this, because never has Carly Rose (accompanied here by her brother Russ) sounded better and more current in the modern music landscape. The best comparison we can give to her time on the show is “As Long As You Love Me” from Justin Bieber, which was our personal favorite performance of hers.
It may be thanks to them being over-used as of late, but mash-ups have developed at times a stigma. However, when you pick two songs that sound completely natural together and carry over well thematically, it can be something really special. The mash-up totally worked here, and it’s the best one out there since “Glee” combined Adele’s “Someone Like You” and “Rumour Has It” back in 2011.
Demi Lovato suffers a leg injury – Sad news for one of the show’s judges (and the only one save for Simon Cowell who may be returning): Demi has injured her fibula (a bone in her leg), which means that she is going to be on crutches for at least the foreseeable future.
As for how she hurt it, the information that the “Give Your Heart a Break” singer shared on Twitter suggests that it happened as a result of slipping on her hardwood floor. As for the fact that Demi also posted the message “fibula schmibula,” it looks as though she is taking the injury rather well at the end of the day.
Fifth Harmony receives another honor – The ladies of Fifth Harmony have quite a bit to be happy about right now, namely that their Harmonizers may very well be some of the best fans on the planet.
Following a poll from Ryan Seacrest’s website about who was the best girl group of all time, Dinah Jane announced on her Twitter that the ladies actually won! We’ll never stop stressing how important it is for the fanbase to stay active and be patient over the next year while the group works on some new music … and if this happens, they could really have a shot at superstardom when the first single comes out.

Carly Rose is amazing. I am watching her You Tube clips more now that when the show was on. I agree that her voice is unique and she will go far. I can not wait unitl she releases a single. I am sure if she produces one herself and puts it on I Tunes it would be a hit

Several people commented that she should not have done “Hallelujah”. Personal, I believe that people [100 years from now] will be listening to her singing that song and they will say…. That was Carly Rose, no one else has ever sang that song like her!

Does anyone know when 90 days are up so she will be free of Simon?

Ever think the reason why carly’s not signed is because Rachel Crow didn’t sell records at 13/14? I get that carly is more popular but maybe they’re finding it hard to sign her bc of that. Cause they will be taking a chance on another little girl. Rachel was a little different too because Disney and Nickelodeon were vocal about having Rachel on her own show because she was spunky. Carly is not she’s more shy.

Alex, Carly doesn’t have the luxury. She’s still owned by Simon Cowell. If they don’t want to sign her, they won’t. Then she can go try to get a record deal with someone else. Fifth Harmony found out the night after the finale that Simon was going to sign them to a record deal. That’s why 5th Harmony had an official website on December 21 with Sony music at the bottom of the page. Emblem 3 knew they were getting signed that same week too because Keaton and Wesley’s mom followed Columbia records and syco music on twitter around christmas break. Emblem 3 also had a new website the first week of january. I look at Carly’s website that’s how you’ll know. Cuz it’ll say her record label on the site. So far nothing. The relecutance to sign her might be her age. Easier to sell records at 13 or 14 if you’re a boy rather than a girl.

dont worry steve, she has the luxury of picking and choosing who she wants to sign with, theres no rush. all the others had to take whatever they could and had to sign quickly before anyone changed their minds lol

hannah, carly is who she is, she isnt a show off or a social butterfly. like her dad said, shes a quiet person, shes always been that way. its part of who she is. u gotta accept it. love her for who she is like i do! :D and nadine, i agree partially with u, i dont think she should have sung hallelujah only cuz the song was done on “the voice” like 2 days earlier. that being said, i think carly absolutely killed it when she sang hallelujah, it was so moving, i cried like a baby the first time i watched it live on the show, and i still get tears in my eyes everytime i watch in on youtube (which is at least once every 2 days) so i think she did an excellent job for her 5 million dollar song

LOVE YOU CARLY. But please be more OUTGOING. You are too reserved. you have to stop that. some people might misinterpret it for something else. I met you in Greenwich on Saturday.

one thing that I never got was WHY she sang Hallelujah for her $5 Million song. couldn’t she sing a contemporary song? Whitney Houston’s “One moment in time” would’ve been perfect. and WHY did Carly agree to duet with Leann Rimes because Leann is not in a good place career wise because of her husband. Justin Bieber wasn’t available? or Celine Dion?? X factor has to do away with the celebrity duets. it doesn’t work. WHY HASN’T SHE BEEN SIGNED? the only thing i can think of is her age. and that damn x factor 90 day ownership. X factor owns Carly till what date? BTW AMerican IDol sux this season

maybe carly’s first album will be pop, but after that she will be able to do what she wants, just has to get her foot a little further in the door first.

Yeaa I don’t think whoever produces her album will want her to do what she wants. They’ll make her into a pop star. One that appeals to mostly young people becuz they move the market and billboard charts. Rihanna and Taylor Swift aren’t technically great singers, but they sell songs and albums because of the younger audience. Her producer will tap into that teen market because Taylor Swift is no longer 18 years old neither are Demi or Miley. Sorry older fans of Carly. She belongs to us. We are going to make her our next teen queen.

Diva, I like your site if that is you. You should do a vocal range study on guys too. …I like Carly, she has a great soul voice. Perfect for soul, jazz, and R & B. She is not the next Mariah or Celine though. That title belongs to Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato who are both lyric sopranos. Carly has a much darker tone to her voice. Almost all girls her age (13) usually sing higher. Dinah Jane from Fifth Harmony is 2 years older than Carly, but Dinah can hit much higher notes. I’d like to see Carly put together an R & B album I think that’s natural for her. Why not do that for a debut album because Beyonce is bringing that sound back with her next album.

I have watched many singers not fully develop their skills. I hope you stick with having a vocal coach Carly because developing technique is imperative to the preservation of your vocal instrument. Right about 14, 15 years old is when you work on your head voice which is maybe why I haven’t heard an F6 note or above from you. Just limit your belting that’s something you are not supposed to be doing a lot of at your age–too much of it will cause damage since you are so young. That’s the broadway in you that you have to shed since you want to be a pop star. Best wishes. I can’t wait to hear how your voice sounds when you are 18.

Carly is smart. She can wait 90 days after Xfactor ended and sign with whomever she wants and isn’t obligated to anyone. She doesn’t need Simon :) This young woman seems to know her future is in her own hands (and her parents of course). Not that Simon and the show did not help, of course they did but, really I think she’s better off choosing her own terms :) Like I said a smart young woman.

I love Carly. She seems sick a lot though. First week of live shows at that top 12 party she was sick. Then she had strep throat when she performed somewhere over the rainbow. Then she was sick semi-final week when she performed your song and imagine. Watching her on stage it Friday, she coughed and sounded like she was getting over a cold. I hope she’s not overusing her voice.

Why has she not been signed to a contract? I am thinking that her parents are being very very careful about who gets their hands on Carly Rose. Who ever signs her will be the biggest winner and everyone knows it. She is the next big huge talent who will be loved around the world. There should be no rush to sign her…her parents are her best protectors, they will see to it that she is treated like the star she is.

i agree with u scott, im not just saying this cuz im an avid carly rose fanboy lol, but honest to God i think carly performs every song she sings BETTER than the originals. she makes every song her own and it seems to just come natural, she doesn’t even have to try. she puts magic into every song she does. love her so much

The show last night was incredible the video was awesome, obviously, more impressed by her version of Give Me Love, a song I know well, Sheeran is very good but I enjoyed Carly’s arrangement more. It’s incredibly difficult to do an acoustic live performance for an artist at any age, but to be thirteen and sound THAT good live was a good demonstration of how incredible this young lady is. She’s not just the future of music, she’s going to impact the music world and do things down the road hat have never been done before, she’s that gifted.

Trust me us Harmonizers have already committed to support them for life! These girls mean so much and the fact that they actually reply to our fan mail, send us DMs on Twitter, post a lot of photos, message us on tumblr means the world to us:) Not to mention the fact their parents are part of the fandom as well lol. There is always very good communication throughout the fandom and it shows given that we easily trend worldwide topics within minutes!

The StageIt show was awesome! Not only did we get two new covers from Carly, but we got to see the less serious side of her too and I really enjoyed her infectious laugh. As always, the songs sounded amazing, even better than the originals, im my opinion. She looked like a star! This girl is going to go so far! Can’t wait for the next song we hear from her.
