‘The X Factor’ USA notes: Carly Rose Sonenclar, Fifth Harmony, Demi Lovato

Carly Rose SonenclairDid you catch the StageIt show with Carly Rose Sonenclar Friday night? If you did, you got quite a treat in being among the first people to hear the “X Factor” USA star’s cover mash-up entitled “After Tonight There’s Trouble.” The two songs featured in here are Justin Nozuka’s “After Tonight” as well as the hit “I Knew You Were Trouble” … and it’s awesome.

We wish that the singing competition really allowed the contestants to do more original acoustic jams like this, because never has Carly Rose (accompanied here by her brother Russ) sounded better and more current in the modern music landscape. The best comparison we can give to her time on the show is “As Long As You Love Me” from Justin Bieber, which was our personal favorite performance of hers.

It may be thanks to them being over-used as of late, but mash-ups have developed at times a stigma. However, when you pick two songs that sound completely natural together and carry over well thematically, it can be something really special. The mash-up totally worked here, and it’s the best one out there since “Glee” combined Adele’s “Someone Like You” and “Rumour Has It” back in 2011.

Demi LovatoDemi Lovato suffers a leg injury – Sad news for one of the show’s judges (and the only one save for Simon Cowell who may be returning): Demi has injured her fibula (a bone in her leg), which means that she is going to be on crutches for at least the foreseeable future.

As for how she hurt it, the information that the “Give Your Heart a Break” singer shared on Twitter suggests that it happened as a result of slipping on her hardwood floor. As for the fact that Demi also posted the message “fibula schmibula,” it looks as though she is taking the injury rather well at the end of the day.

Fifth Harmony receives another honor – The ladies of Fifth Harmony have quite a bit to be happy about right now, namely that their Harmonizers may very well be some of the best fans on the planet.

Following a poll from Ryan Seacrest’s website about who was the best girl group of all time, Dinah Jane announced on her Twitter that the ladies actually won! We’ll never stop stressing how important it is for the fanbase to stay active and be patient over the next year while the group works on some new music … and if this happens, they could really have a shot at superstardom when the first single comes out.
