NBC’s ‘Smash’ season 2 spoilers: What’s next for Derek?

While the future for a number of characters on “Smash” season 2 has already been addressed in many shapes and forms, there is one character who has become at times neglected: Derek. So what will end up becoming of him? All that we can say for now is that he will continue to have some of the same wickedness that was there during the first season, but he will spend just as much time paying for some of his past behavior as he will be trying to create new problems with himself for some of the folks surrounding the “Bombshell” production.

With the show returning to NBC with new episodes on Tuesday, Jack Davenport offered up a bit of a tease on the season to E! News; not only that, but he also suggested that there are going to be some welcome surprises for his character to come along with what you may expect:

“Aspects of his personal behavior do slightly come back to haunt him, that’s for sure … As well as the fact that his combative style—whilst it often gets results, not everyone enjoys being on the end of it. And the creative team around Bombshell, as you saw in the first season, we continue to be not entirely peaceful with one another. And that develops into areas that I was quite surprised be.”

Now the real question for us is just what sort of relationship with both Karen and Ivy Derek is going to have, as this craziness and/or confusion was one of the primary reasons why much of the show’s first season suffered. We wanted to be able to cheer for many of these characters, but we often found ourselves not really being able to do so.
