’30 Rock’ series finale: What’s next for Tina Fey?
In less than 72 hours as of this writing, “30 Rock” will be done with new episodes after seven seasons. It’s been a weird, wacky ride for a show that always did think outside of the box. Not everyone loved it, but those who did found a brilliantly funny show and a scathing critique at times on some of the trials and tribulations that go on behind the scenes in producing a network television show (even if most of it was blown out of proportion here).
So with the series finale coming up, there is one question that is simply inevitable: what in the world is Tina Fey going to do next? She was the brainchild behind getting this show off the ground to begin with, and while we are sure she will keep acting in the occasional film here and there, here television pursuits are a little bit murky. With that in mind, we present to you the following quote from Fey herself (via Us Weekly) at the SAG Awards Sunday night:
“I am going to London in March to film the next Muppets movie. . .and I’m hopefully shooting a movie called Mail Order Groom this summer with SteveMy partner Robert Carlock and I have a new overall deal with NBC to eventually — over the next couple of years — develop another television show. That’s sort of what’s going on.”
Don’t expect to see Tina back on TV in the fall. Most pilots for the new season are already in production, and after she finishes some of the aforementioned feature films, she may take a brief break before starting to get ideas going on what she would like to do next. It’s possible that we could hear from her at this time next year with a new project; and if that does happen, we’d love to it be something a little bit different than what we saw from “30 Rock.” After all, wouldn’t it be interesting to see her in front of a live audience after her rich “Saturday Night Live” experience years ago?
What do you think Tina Fey should do now that “30 Rock” is ending? If you want to watch some individual clips from the finale, you can do so over here.
